Survey of protected plant species in abandoned vineyards
After the abandonment of many centuries of vine-growing in the hills and mountains, many protected and rare plant species have appeared on the former plots, while some of the vineyards are in various stages of scrub encroachment and reforestation. In the last decade and a half, the assessment of these botanical values, the evaluation of their populations, the identification of the factors that guarantee or threaten their survival and the definition of the necessary management methods for their conservation have been the subject of several theses and dissertations, contributing to the knowledge of little-known areas of the landscape that are outside the scope of nature conservation.
