Our Arrival to Central Europe (Visegrad Fund project)
The main aim of the project is to understand the details of the arrival of anatomically modern humans (AMH) to Central Europe. This topic recently belongs among the most discussed scientific problems not only in the fields of archaeology and anthropology, but in the disciplines of geology, environmental sciences and genetics. In central Moravia, the site of Želeč I revealed settlement remains dated back to the period of the AMH occupation of this area (ca 45-43 ky BP). Re-excavation of this locality with a use of modern environmental methods including charcoal analysis, sedimental micromorphological analysis, phytolith analyses and dating methods, such as the AMS radiocarbon dating and OSL dating helps to understand both the contemporary environment and the site formation of this important palaeolithic site.
