DAAMBA – Domestic Anthropic Activity Markers of Bronze Age settlements: A multiproxy methodological approach to understand household related activities
(NKFIH FK_142894)
The main objective of the DAAMBA project is to develop a methodology and a role model, which is suitable for the detection of household related activities (e.g. crop processing, building, maintenance, waste management, subsistence strategies) via the application of a specific suite of natural scientific methods. The everyday life and activity of archaeological cultures cannot be assessed solely through the understanding of the diverse material heritage and buildings they leave behind. It is inevitable to reveal those formation processes that are responsible for the formation of the archaeological record including all the micro evidences, therefore the examination of anthropogenic sediments (produced by human activity) is necessary. The abovementioned aim is to be reached with the integration, multi-level comparison and visualisation of geoarchaeological and archaeobotanical data. The main goal of using geoarchaeological methods in activity area analysis is to decipher the ‘invisible’ fingerprints that provide the spatial pattern for everyday activities. At the same time, the archaeobotanical finds and knowledge can provide tangible evidence for the understanding of household related activities and subsistence strategies. In addition to precisely defining their temporal contexts (C-14 dating), all scientific and archaeological data will be integrated in a GIS database, which will back-up the analysis and evaluation of different data types. To achieve the project aims, a database composed of data representing a number of Bronze Age archaeological sites and various cultures will be evaluated. This criterion is a baseline for both the spatial and cultural comparison.
