Introduction
Our department has been in operation for almost 75 years. Our department heads were, among others, Gyula Éhik (at our predecessor), then Oszkár Keller, László Huzián, Gyula Fábián and Gábor Bakonyi.
The main profile of our department is teaching, which we provide in addition to many of MATE's departments, in national and international cooperation at all levels of higher education, as well as guest lecturers.
Our research activities in the fields of zoology and ecology are mainly focused on conservation zoology, pollination ecology, agrozoology (study of plant pests and their natural enemies), zoologically related ecosystem services research, soil zoology (with special emphasis on degradation processes and the effects of soil pollution), soil ecotoxicology, behavioural biology of birds.
We also undertake expert studies in the above fields, with numerous references.
An important part of our educational, awareness-raising and research activities is the non-profit Oak Nature Conservation Association, established in 1998, which conducts research and zoologically based environmental impact assessments in certain theoretical and practical areas of nature conservation, and the Nematological College, founded in 2019, which involves students in the study of various aspects of soil-dwelling nematodes, especially the occurrence of plant pest species and the possibilities of chemical-free control.
